Find water without committing to the shoreline

In Evrima, use your scent ability to search for nearby resources and orient yourself toward water instead of roaming until your thirst is nearly empty. Treat the scent result as direction-finding, not a promise that the route or shore is safe.

1. Travel toward the indicated water source while staying near vegetation, terrain breaks, and routes that let you turn away.
2. Slow down before the final approach. Rivers, ponds, and lake edges funnel thirsty players into predictable places.
3. Pause outside the open bank and listen for footsteps, splashing, calls, combat, or movement in foliage.

Do not sprint blindly to the first water you find. A longer approach that preserves stamina is usually safer than crossing exposed ground quickly and arriving unable to escape.

Choose a lower-risk place to drink

There is no guaranteed safe water location on an Evrima server. Safety depends on the current players, visibility, terrain, and whether an aquatic threat can reach the edge. Look for a position that limits the time you are visible and gives you a simple retreat.

• Prefer cover nearby: bushes, rocks, trees, or a slope can break sightlines after you drink.
• Keep an exit behind or beside you: avoid steep banks, dead ends, deep water, and tight gaps that trap your body.
• Limit open-water exposure: drink from the edge rather than wandering farther in than necessary.
• Check both directions: a quiet bank can still have a player waiting upstream, downstream, or in a bush behind you.

Community reports and gameplay guides describe some shoreline positions as relatively safer, not foolproof. Even a protected-looking gap between rocks can be vulnerable to a well-timed attack, so treat every drink as a calculated risk.

Check the bank before you drink

Make a short observation stop before using the drink interaction. This is especially important at busy rivers and broad, open ponds, where approaching dinosaurs are easier to miss while your view is focused on water.

1. Stand back from the edge and scan the waterline, opposite bank, nearby reeds, bushes, and likely approach paths.
2. Rotate your camera instead of staring in one direction. Watch for ripples, splashes, silhouettes, and movement that does not match the environment.
3. Listen for close calls, footsteps, or splashing. Silence is not proof of safety, but obvious activity is a reason to leave.
4. Wait briefly if another dinosaur is already drinking. Do not stack on the same small access point unless you accept the added risk.

If you spot anything uncertain, back away toward cover and reassess. Thirst is manageable; becoming trapped at the waterline is often not.

Drink in short, deliberate exposure

When the bank looks clear, move to the shallow edge and use the on-screen interaction shown by Evrima. Keep your approach simple: face the water only as long as the interaction requires, then turn back toward your planned exit.

1. Position at the edge, not in deeper water, unless your species and immediate situation require otherwise.
2. Begin drinking only after your exit route is clear in your camera view or already memorized.
3. Watch your thirst status and stop when you have recovered enough to continue safely. Do not remain for a perfect refill if danger appears.
4. Move away from the bank immediately, using cover and an unpredictable route rather than standing nearby to rest.

A nearby player may be waiting for a long drink animation or for you to relax after finishing. The safest part of the routine is leaving promptly, not finding a supposedly permanent safe spot.

If the water prompt will not work

If Evrima does not offer the expected drink interaction, do not keep shuffling around an exposed shoreline. A reported community workaround is to walk away from the water, return to the edge, and try again; one report notes that another prompt appearing first can interfere with drinking.

1. Step back from the bank to a safer position.
2. Check whether another interaction prompt is active or whether your dinosaur is standing on an awkward part of the terrain.
3. Return to a clearer shallow edge and try once.
4. Move to another point on the same bank or a different water source if it still fails.

Stop troubleshooting at the shoreline if players or predators are nearby. Surviving matters more than forcing one interaction; relocate, regain cover, and try at a safer moment.
